The business must meet the following qualifications to be considered for this award.

- Five years in business or longer
- 15 or more employees (including full-and-part-time)*
- Minimum of three years membership in the River Heights Chamber of Commerce*
- Committed to the community through involvement and assistance to community organizations
- Committed to growth and business improvement through investment in new equipment, buildings, growth in the number of employees, programs and/or other innovations
- Committed to employees through innovative employee programs
- Committed to excellence in service, business ethics, and friendliness
- Committed to responding to adversity by facing problems and developing solutions
