New Highlights...

Commitment to Progress Plus  In late September, the Progress Plus Board of Directors held a special meeting to discuss long-term strategic planning for the organization beginning in 2009 and beyond.  As Progress Plus prepares to celebrate its 20 years of rich history and economic development successes, it must be poised for future investment in the region.

Leaders of Progress Plus, the public-private economic development initiative of the River Heights Chamber of Commerce, worked hard over the past several months to find a long-term solution of sustainability for the initiative.  The need to retain the commitment of South St. Paul and Inver Grove Heights Key was imperative to its future, while seeking new fee-for-service opportunities outside the region.   Support by elected leaders such as Mayor George Tourville of Inver Grove Heights and South St. Paul Mayor Beth Bauman is essential.  As key partners of the business community, they will help to shape future economic development investment and job creation for the Progress Plus Region.

“As Progress Plus integrates itself closer to the Chamber, we believe this will provide a platform for growth, insures quality customer services and innovation, insuring even greater benefits for South St. Paul and Inver Grove Heights’ interests,” stated board member, Dan O’Brien, Krech, O’Brien, Muller & Associates.

Special thanks to the Progress Plus Board of Directors, and to Mayor Tourville and Mayor Baumann for their commitment and vision for Progress Plus.

News Reported from the Minnesota Chamber's Morning Digest- October 2, 2008 A Special Message from the US Chamber of Commerce Commentary, Thomas Donohue, U.S. Chamber of Commerce president/CE0: Main Street and Wall Street - We're in This Together The defeat of the financial rescue plan in the House of Representatives yesterday dealt a needless blow to an already faltering economy. Investors lost $1.2 trillion in wealth. Confidence that our elected leaders are capable of solving big challenges was further shaken. And, we continue to invite an economic calamity of epic proportions every day we delay addressing this crisis. It's time for Congress to put aside partisan differences and act in the national interest. Major opposition to the bill stems from the mistaken belief that this is a rescue of Wall Street, not Main Street. What escapes many people is how dependent one is on the other. Both must be successful. Pitting Wall Street vs. Main Street is wrongheaded and unproductive. They are inextricably connected.
